The UK's new rules for subscription contracts, part of the DMCC Act, come into force in January 2027, brought forward from spring 2027 by the government's announcement of 9 August 2026. We covered what they change for merchants in our guide to the UK subscription rules. Short version: renewal reminders before money is taken, cancellation as easy as signing up, and 14-day cooling-off periods with refunds after trial conversions and long-term renewals, all enforceable by the CMA with direct fines.

Progus Subscriptions now ships the tools that map to those duties, so a UK store can run its subscriptions the way the incoming rules expect, starting today.

What UK stores get

  • A UK readiness card on the dashboard. Stores based in the United Kingdom see a card that shows, at a glance, whether renewal reminders, self-serve cancellation and simple cancellation are on, with one-click fixes for anything that is off. Stores outside the UK are not affected.
  • Renewal reminders. An email before each renewal charge, naming the amount and the date, on both card billing and SEPA direct debit via Mollie. You choose how many days ahead it goes out, and every send is recorded with the recipient and the time. Setup guide.
  • Cooling-off tracking with one-click refunds. After a trial converts to a paid plan, or a subscription billed every 12 months or more renews, the app opens a 14-day window, tells the subscriber they can change their mind, and, if they cancel in time, flags it to you with a suggested refund and a one-click refund button. How it works.
  • Simple cancellation. One click switches off the retention step so a subscriber can cancel in the customer portal without extra screens, matching the "as easy as signing up" expectation. And whatever channel a cancellation request arrives through, here is how to handle it.

What this is, and what it is not

The exact statutory notice formats will only be fixed by secondary legislation, which is still pending. So this is deliberately built as ready-for, not certified-compliant: the mechanisms the regime centres on are in place and working, the wording is plain language you can edit, and we will align the templates with the final requirements once they are published, well before January 2027.

If you sell subscriptions to UK customers, the practical move is simple: turn the reminders on, keep cancellation self-serve, and let the app track the cooling-off windows for you. Everything above is available on every plan, including Free.
